Entertainment Article:
By Kate Larson Entertainment Writer 8/31/22 Every time I scroll through TikTok or Instagram, it feels like I’ve defied the laws of science and stepped back in time. Between the claw clip craze and mom jean mania, fashion has taken quite the nostalgic turn.
I can’t count how many times I’ve walked out of my room dressed head to toe in the newest fashion trends (or so I thought), and my mom comments how she wore the exact same thing in the 90s. We have come full circle since the late 80s/ early 90s, and honestly, I'm not upset about it. Let’s take a look at some of the fashion trends making their way back in and taking the fashion industry by storm. First up, we have the infamous fanny pack. Love them or hate them; they're back and better than ever. For years they were the brunt of many fashion jokes but slowly made their way back up the charts. They’re a hands-free, stylish way to keep all your essentials in one place, earning a 10/10 in my book. Second, we have the classic Birkenstock sandals. In the 90s, Birkenstocks were a staple, but recently they have become popular in mainstream fashion again. Birkenstocks can be styled with everything from athleisure to business casual. Third on the list, we have biker shorts. Biker shorts entered the fashion realm when Princess Diana popularized them in the early 90s and didn’t reappear until Kim Kardashian revived them in the late 2010s. Whether I love them or hate them is still undecided, but they have certainly become a staple in athleisure wear. The last one, and one of the most popular are high waisted jeans. High-waisted jeans were a breath of fresh air after years of the y2k low-waisted trend. High-waisted jeans are a more comfortable and flattering option for most, so let’s take a moment to appreciate the fashion world for bringing these back. The list could go on and on. Some honorable mentions of recycled fashion trends are Doc Martens, scrunchies, denim overalls, puffer jackets, oversized t-shirts, fishnets, and bodysuits. Despite all of the recycled trends, fashion has come a long way in the past three decades. Though we can appreciate the comeback of many fads, let’s also take a moment to be thankful that bowl cuts and suspenders are deep in the archives, and let’s make sure that's where they stay. |
