By: Kate Larson Entertainment Writer 4/5/23 State wrestling is right around the corner, and the bearcat wrestlers are ready. This past weekend, the bearcats won districts, securing their spots in the state tournament.
Along with a team win, a few wrestlers claimed the title of individual district champs. This includes junior Chance Houser, who flew through the tournament, clutching the district title. Houser will return to the state tournament, but this time representing Scottsbluff. Just this past year, Houser traded in his Red Raider gear to join the Bearcats. “The atmosphere at Scottsbluff is a lot different than Sidney. The bigger the school, the more competitive it is.” Houser states while talking about his transfer process. It was a big adjustment, but Houser quickly stepped up and made a name for himself in the mat room. Though, due to unforeseen injuries, not everything has gone as he planned. |
“I tweaked my knee earlier in the year, so I’ve had to undergo a lot of physical therapy,” Houser explains.
Despite a few challenges, Houser is not letting anything shift his focus when it comes to claiming the state title. “Even though my knee isn’t in the best shape, I’m feeling pretty confident. I think I have a good shot at winning it all this year.” Houser admits. Like many wrestlers across the state, Houser is heading into the tournament with an all-or-nothing mindset. With this mindset and his talent, all the cards are stacked in his favor. On February 16th, Houser and the rest of the bearcat wrestlers will head to Omaha and battle for the state title. |
